Learning to Self-Discipline

Learning to Self-Discipline

Throughout my life, I have struggled to self-discipline myself. I have had to learn how to fight the laziness and distractions that are such a hindrance to achieving one’s goals. Overall, I have done a good job of finding different ways to combat these struggles. There are multiple different methods I have developed to keep myself focused and organized.

One of the best ways I have found to discipline myself is the simple act of planning. Writing out my plans helps me to better organize my thoughts and actions. Without planning, I often find I get distracted easily and lose sight of my goals.

Just by simply laying out each step ahead of me, I find it immensely easier to take control of my life and mind. I would advocate writing out my thoughts to anyone, as it has helped me to become the best possible student I can be.

My thoughts at times can be sporadic and random, so laying them out on paper helps to bring some clarity and organization that is so sorely needed. Whenever I am feeling down and lazy, I like to do activities that promote healthy mental and physical habits.

I love to challenge my mind with all sorts of mental challenges, or even just activities such as reading and writing. I like to get out a lot, as I hate sitting in my dorm all day. I love to run outside in the fresh air, as it feels incredibly freeing.

I normally go to the gym at least three times a week, as I find it makes me feel more positive to stay physically active. Above all else, staying active in all aspects of my life helps me to stay productive and positive, which in turn helps me to discipline my actions.

Perhaps one of the greatest hindrances I have discovered in my life is my struggle with anxiety. In the past, I have found that anxiety can leave me feeling defeated as if I have no purpose. It got to the point I was diagnosed and took medication to help with the stress.

In recent years I have taken many actions to combat this anxiety, and I am proud to say I am much better than I once was. I am able to deal with the stress on my own, due to having found different ways to find positivity in even the most stressful times.

All of these different actions have helped me to combat the hindrances of everyday life. By controlling my own mental and physical help, I feel more in control of my plans and actions. I have done many things to stay organized in life, but I am always open to learning new ways.

I never want to stagnate in life due to not being open to change. I look forward to what the future holds, as I have confidence in my ability to keep being the most productive individual I can be.
